About our freight services

In keeping with our corporate charter of improving access and quality of life for our customers and owners in Fort Chipewyan, Air Mikisew is pleased to offer extremely competitive freight rates between Edmonton, Fort McMurray, and Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. The vast majority of our freight business is run out of our main hangar in Fort McMurray, where we have the manpower and equipment to handle just about anything that will fit into our aircraft (up to and including snowmobiles, ATVs, and industrial/drilling/surveying equipment).

Please note that shipment of any dangerous goods absolutely requires the shipper to have filled out the proper paperwork beforehand.

All single-leg shipments (ie Edmonton to McMurray) are billed at a flat charge of $25 up to 54 lbs, after which the charge increases at $0.46/lb. All double-leg shipments (ie Edmonton to Fort Chipewyan) are billed at a flat charge of $36 up to 44 lbs, after which the charge increases at $0.82/lb. Pickup and delivery services are available in Fort McMurray and Edmonton for an additional $30 per location. Special Considerations for Edmonton

We’re pleased to offer freight services on our scheduled flights between Edmonton and Fort McMurray for time-sensitive customers. However, this run is conducted in our Bae Jetstream aircraft, which are primarily configured for passengers. The cargo area is small, and the Esso Avitat in Edmonton is not set up for freight receiving. As such, we place the following restrictions on freight between Edmonton and Fort McMurray:

1. ✓Parcels are to be no heavier than 50 (fifty) pounds apiece.
   

2. ✓Parcels are to be no larger than 2 feet x 2 feet x 2 feet.
   

3. ✓Under no circumstances will we accept dangerous goods at our Edmonton terminal.
   

We also require that any shipments to be dropped off at the Esso in Edmonton be called in before they can be accepted. We do not have acceptance agents in Edmonton; all services are contracted to the Esso. As such, payment must be arranged and a form faxed to the Esso before they will accept the item for shipment. If you wish to ship an item that exceeds these measurements from Edmonton to Fort Chipewyan, please call our freight department
at 1 (888) 268 7112. We will be happy to help you arrange ground shipment to Fort McMurray, whereupon our trained agents will accept the shipment and continue shipment by air to Fort Chipewyan. Please note that correct dangerous goods documentation is still required.
